WED. (LATE START) 9/30 SOUTH IHS AND THURSDAY 10/1 SHS IHS
At SO, students turned in their autobio poems.
Review -- once again! -- in text citation
Take notes on the THEMES. We did this in all classes except SO PM, where we'll do it on Friday.
In SO PM class, students turned in their setting art.
Work in groups of 3 to discuss 3 questions from the novel. If you were absent, you should get the three questions from the homework box (a pink half sheet) in the classroom and complete them on your own.
HWK:
Bring your Writer's inc!
Finish reading the novel.
Bring in vocab pics and definitions for the next ten words from LotF (just like last time we did vocab). The words are:
tacit, belligerence, blatant, malevolently,parody, sinewy, apex, diffidently, increduility, derisive.

MONDAY 9/28 SOUTH IHS AND TUESDAY 9/29 SHELDON IHS
Artwalk to look at your half sheets of art based on the setting description of the island on page 29
In South AM classes and Sheldon, we had a quiz on Chapters 8 & 9. No quiz in SO PM class.
Use your Writer's Inc. to bookmark pages that refer to comma splices, cliches, and how to create a Works Cited page. If you missed class, look in the Table of Contents to find these references and mark them with a sticky note.
Review how to properly use in text citation
Receive an assignment on how an author creates CHARACTERS in a novel and work on it with a partner. If not finished in class, this is due at the beginning of next class. Remember that you must split up the work of writing so that both partners write about half the answers.

SOUTH PM ONLY: Complete the setting art assignment. See previous blog posting for details on how to do this.
Read Chapters 10 & 11
If necessary, finish the CHARACTER assignment.

WED. 9/23 (LATE START) SOUTH IHS AND THURS. 9/24 SHELDON IHS
I gave you credit for bringing your Writer's Inc. to class, as assigned. The work we were to do in these at South was delayed because so many students DIDN'T bring Writer's Inc.! Oh, no! Definitely bring it on Monday!
Vocab game on first 10 words using the pictures you turned in last class.
Quiz on Chs 6 & 7
I went through the novel reading/explaining passages and reinforcing the literary term "diction" we learned last week
In South AM1 and AM2, we started a setting art project which is due next class (Look at the description of the island on page 29. Using a half sheet of computer paper, draw a DETAILED, NEAT, ACCURATE picture of the island. Your work should fill the page and be colorful.
