THURSDAY 10/15 SOUTH IHS

Check out "Oedipus" by Sophocles

Get vocab assignment

Background to "Oedipus" and understanding strophe/antistrophe IF YOU MISSED CLASS, YOU SHOULD RESEARCH THE BACKGROUND AND STROPE/ANTISTROPHE ON LINE AND GET AN IDEA OF WHAT'S GOING ON AS THE PLAY BEGINS.
Get assignment of a character or Greek god/goddess for our TOGA PARTY! You'll come dressed in a toga and some kind of sandals. You're welcome to wear a T-shirt and pants under the toga,but nothing bulky or distracting like a striped shirt or sweatshirt. You can google "how to make a toga" for info on creating a toga, but please don't spend money on buying new material. Use an old sheet (or buy an old one from Goodwill) that's PLAIN -- no flowers, Mickey Mouse, etc.
Be sure that your toga and the nametag you will make to attach to your toga has some kind of representation of your character/god/goddess (a fake crown, a plastic bow and arrow, etc.). YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SPEND MONEY ON THIS OUTFIT TO DO IT WELL.

EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY: Bring some Greek foods for our toga party or offer to help me clean up afterwards (I only need two helpers from each class,and you must not have a class after ours in order to stay and clean). Ideas for food: Store bought dolmas, pita bread, hummus, grapes, Greek cheese, tzakziki. If money is any issue at all in getting this extra credit, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! You will not be left without extra credit simply because you couldn't afford to spend money right now. NO ONE SHOULD SPEND MORE THAN $5 ON THIS PARTY FOOD.

HWK;
BE READY FOR OUR TOGA PARTY. IF YOU MISSED THIS, EMAIL ME TOMORROW OR SATURDAY (DON'T WAIT UNTIL SUNDAY NIGHT), AND I'LL EMAIL YOU MORE INFORMATION ABOUT A GOD/GODDESS.
READ PG. 49-65 (PLAY STARTS ON P. 49) OF "OEDIPUS." ON PAGE 65, STOP WHERE THE TEXT READS "ENTER CREON."

WED. 10/14 -- REQUIRED STATE TESTING IN ALL 4J HIGH SCHOOLS. NO CLASSES
